Strategic visit of Iran's Interior Minister to Pakistan: From $10 billion trade agreement to security and border cooperation
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan's Interior Minister, said during a meeting on Tuesday with Eskandar Momeni, Iran's Interior Minister, that the presence of senior representatives from Iran's ministries of Industry, Mine and Trade; Oil; Agriculture Jihad; and Roads and Urban Development reflects the importance of bilateral cooperation and the adoption of new measures to open new avenues of collaboration.
Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan's Interior Minister, referring to the problem of terrorism and elements seeking to undermine the atmosphere of peace and tranquility at the common borders, stated that Tehran and Islamabad are determined to control this challenge and will not allow terrorists and their supporters to succeed in their objectives.
Momeni, Iran's Interior Minister, also raised three issues in this meeting: facilitating the movement of commercial trucks from Iran to various parts of Pakistan and vice versa, increasing the volume of bilateral trade to $10 billion, and the Pakistani government's commitment to modernizing the railway line at its borders with Iran to help boost commercial activities.
Momeni emphasized: "Increasing trade at the borders, especially at the Rimdan-Gabd crossing, is of interest to Iran, and we request the Pakistani side to take the necessary measures to increase cross-border trade activities in Rimdan."
Meeting of Iran's Interior Minister with Pakistan's Prime Minister
Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met and held talks on Tuesday evening with Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan's Prime Minister.
The two sides exchanged views in this meeting on expanding economic, commercial, security, and border cooperation, as well as the latest regional developments. The development of economic relations and increasing the volume of trade exchanges were among the most important topics of these talks.
In this meeting, avenues for facilitating trade, removing existing obstacles, developing border cooperation, and strengthening bilateral cooperation were also discussed and examined.
Momeni's Meeting with Pakistan's Army Chief
The Public Relations Department of the Pakistani Army announced in a statement on Tuesday night: Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the Army Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. During this meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional and bilateral security, and effective border management were discussed. Iran's Interior Minister also expressed appreciation in this meeting for Pakistan's ongoing efforts and diplomatic role in reducing regional tensions, encouraging de-escalation, and playing a role for peace.
