Meeting on "Reviewing Key Opportunities and Challenges of Cooperation with Türkiye in the Post-War Period
The meeting, “Reviewing Key Opportunities and Challenges of Cooperation with Turkey in the Post-War Period,” was held with the participation of directors and deputies of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce and a group of intellectuals, experts, and economic activists with the aim of reviewing the latest geopolitical and economic developments in Turkey and identifying the potential for trade cooperation with the country. At this meeting, holding joint trade meetings, utilizing Turkey’s capacity to import basic goods, developing corridors, and increasing multilateral investments were proposed as short-term and medium-term solutions for developing interactions with the country.
In this meeting, a report on the latest economic and geopolitical developments in Turkey was presented, and the report indicated that the volume of Turkish exports in 2025 was equivalent to 273 billion dollars, ranking 31st among other countries in terms of export value. The report also indicated that a major part of Turkish exports to Iran are related to industrial and capital goods such as industrial machinery and equipment, and Iranian exports to this country mainly include goods related to the initial links of the value chain.
In the continuation of the meeting "Reviewing the Key Opportunities and Challenges of Cooperation with Turkey in the Post-War Period", it was stated that the proximity, easy access by land route, and cultural and linguistic similarities make Iran an attractive option for Turkish investors, and this opportunity can be used for economic growth and continued cooperation. Also, holding joint trade events, utilizing Turkey's capacity to import basic goods, developing corridors, and increasing multilateral investments, as well as increasing direct communications with Turkish chambers of commerce and economic activists to provide a basis for gradual penetration into the Istanbul market and other economic centers of the country, were emphasized.
Other topics raised in this meeting were the necessity of developing customs infrastructure, increasing Iran-Turkey border capacities, completing transit routes, and recovering Iran's share of the East-West Corridor.
The necessity of developing economic diplomacy in coordination with the government and the private sector was mentioned, and the attendees suggested that a joint committee be formed between the Tehran Chamber and government agencies to formulate a unified policy, and it was decided that a decision on its launch would be made after examining the dimensions of forming this committee.
